Colour grading, common questions
What is colour grading?
Colour grading is the creative process of shaping the colour, contrast and mood of every shot so a film looks consistent and cinematic. It sets the visual tone and guides how an audience feels.
What is the difference between colour correction and colour grading?
Colour correction balances exposure and white balance so shots match and look natural. Grading goes further, crafting a deliberate look and atmosphere for the whole film. We do both, correction first, then the creative grade.
What do I need to bring for a grade?
Your edited timeline and the original camera files or a high quality master. If you have reference images, LUTs or a look in mind, bring those too. We will confirm the best delivery format for cinema, streaming or broadcast.
Do you grade for cinema and streaming?
Yes. We grade in a calibrated environment with 4K projection, and deliver versions matched to cinema, streaming and television so the look holds up on every screen.
How long does a colour grade take?
A short can be graded in a day or two, a feature usually over several sessions. We book collaborative sessions so directors and cinematographers can be in the room as the look comes together.
